REFLECTION
A Reflection on Intention

Altagracia facilitating an artist talk at The 7 Space

Dear Community,

As we enter 2025, I invite you to pause, reflect, and dream forward.

I've been thinking about how intention affects our work and our lives. This letter explores these thoughts, includes a narrative of a personal intention in 2024, and a tool to help you strengthen your intention-setting process in the new year.

In facilitation, I've learned that an experience doesn't begin with a date on a calendar. It starts when we set the intention — days, weeks, months, or even years before it manifests. The power of the intention will shape everything that follows.

Raja Gemini, a brilliant fashion, makeup, and drag artist, once shared that each of their elaborate creations is a spiritual practice infused with time, energy, and discipline. They likened the creation of a garment to saying "100 Hail Marys." This statement resonated profoundly with me.

Once we set the intention, those "100 Hail Marys" begin.

In 2024, we designed several experiences and curated diverse work plans to meet our clients' needs. Each project has been exciting and unique. Today, I'm proud to share a project whose intention makes it special. I want to present The 7 Space | Art Gallery and Wellness Center.

The 7 Space | Art Gallery & Wellness Center - Conversation Room

The 7 Space uniquely blends art, music, experiential design, and immersive healing approaches to foster wellness, community, and connection.

This dream didn't start with our opening ceremony celebration, though. It began long before a ribbon cutting and even before construction began. It started with my team's deep conversations and imagination sessions — it started with moments of pure, intentional dreaming.

We envisioned the space's look and feel and how people might receive it. We considered: What will this space give to those who walk through its doors? What will they carry forward with them when they leave? We wanted guests to feel replenished and inspired.

Each element of The 7 Space encourages well-being, from the wallpaper to the tiles, the art, and the music played in the space. We sought to design a physical space that facilitates people's feeling of being seen, connected, and inspired.

We approached each task with mindfulness, as though each nail hammered, each wall painted, was a prayer or an offering. "100 Hail Marys," for sure. We dreamed of the magic that could grow in the space, and these dreams informed every step of the process. It took its own time, but that intention has manifested.

Since our fall opening, the experience has been surreal. The opportunity to facilitate healing in this capacity has been extraordinary. The 7 Space has already received so much love, including being featured in the renowned Newark Arts Festival just a week after our opening.

One frequent guest wrote in our guestbook, "Every time I come here, I feel healed." Another said, "I feel so inspired and energized being here — I can't wait to leave and create [art]." The feedback reminds us that the community has felt our intention, and we are so grateful.

May 2025 be a year in which you create with purpose and dream boldly. I hope this message inspires you to bring mindfulness and intention to your next creations. Here's to a year of possibility. 🥳

Also, you’re invited to schedule a tour of The 7 Space in 2025. ☕️

RESOURCE
A Tool for Intention

Often, the intention is an unacknowledged element of a meeting, retreat, or gathering. The challenge is that without clearly stating our "why," meaning can be easily lost.

Without clear and stated intentions, vital opportunities for connection or productivity may be missed. When we approach creation with intention, we create more purposeful experiences for ourselves and others.

When gathering community — I often ask, "What's my intention?" and "Why are we gathering?"

The answers to these questions inform every detail and decision related to a gathering.

This way, a picnic isn't just an opportunity to munch on snacks in a park but also to deepen relationships across clusters of friends. Similarly, a birthday party can be more than an event acknowledging another year; we can purposefully celebrate our moments and milestones together.

When you set out to create something — an event, a meeting, a professional learning session, or a gathering for friends and family — imagine the experience beginning when you set your intention.

How might this process help you create something impactful and imbued with purpose? How will your intention move that creative process forward?

Below is a tool to help you set intentions and answer these questions in 2025 and beyond.
